Pétanque

Pétanque @ Avalon Bowlo

Come and have fun playing pétanque with us. We also hold social events, often with a French flavour. Petanque is the French name for “boules” and is played with steel balls. Pétanque has been played at Avalon Bowlo for over 30 years. We play on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings starting at 10:00am.

The name comes from “pieds tanqué”, which in the dialect of Languedoc in South West France means Feet Fixed. The players stand in a small circle to throw their ball. We play the game in groups of four players. The idea is similar to lawn bowls. Get as many balls as close to the jack as possible. Except in petanque the jack is called a “cochonet”.

Beginners and new players welcome. We have spare boules if needed.
